Lazio’s Francesco Acerbi Made First Career Appearance for Italy at a Major Tournament During the Euro 2020 Fixture Against Switzerland

The Italian national team’s Euro 2020 win over Switzerland was a special match for multiple players, including for Lazio defender Francesco Acerbi.

In the early stages of the fixture, Italian national team manager Roberto Mancini elected to sub in Acerbi for center-back Giorgio Chiellini, who suffered a minor injury.

Acerbi went on to have a fine performance in the match with two interceptions recorded and one clearance logged. The veteran Serie A defender did his part in helping Italy record a second consecutive clean sheet win to open up its Euro 2020run.

More so, this was the first-ever appearance for Acerbi with Italy at a major international tournament, which has been a long time coming for him considering that he notched his first cap with the side during a friendly fixture against Albania in 2014.

Acerbi well proved that when there is a need for him to feature in a key match for Italy, he would be ready to provide for a formidable overall showing.
