Veteran Defender Radu Wants to Stay With Lazio Despite Inter’s Pressing

Lazio veteran Stefan Radu will only join Inter if the Biancocelesti don’t offer him a new contract.

As reported by Italian radio broadcaster Radiosei (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) earlier today, new Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi is keen to sign the 34-year-old Romanian defender as a backup to young center-back Alessandro Bastoni, filling the void left behind by the departure of Aleksandar Kolarov.

Radu appreciates the interest but he wants to stay at Lazio. The player is very attached to the club and has asked for a two-year deal from the club, but due to his age, president Claudio Lotito is only considering a one-year contract for now.

There’s clearly still some distance between the two parties and Inter are pressing, but Radu wants to stay with Lazio.

The 34-year-old Radu, who joined the Biancocelesti in 2008, made 31 Serie A appearances this campaign, for a total of 2466 minutes. In that time, he provided three assists and helped the side keep 11 clean sheets.

This season he also broke Lazio’s all-time appearance record, surpassing Giuseppe Favalli’s 401 appearances.
