Lazio’s Francesco Acerbi Could Start for Italy in the Euro 2020 Knockout Stage Fixture Against Austria

Italian national team manager Roberto Mancini is currently facing a notable injury dilemma.

Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini has been out of action since suffering a thigh injury during Italy’s Euro 2020 group stage fixture against Switzerland.

The veteran centre-back has been taking part in individual training sessions as of late but remains a doubt for Italy’s massive Euro 2020 Round of 16 clash with Austria.

The Italian-based outlet Sky Sport notes that if Chiellini will not be ready to go against Austria, Mancini may lean towards Lazio defender Francesco Acerbi to start in his place.

Acerbi is coming off of an appearance in Italy’s recent 1-0 group stage win against Wales, where he featured in 45 minutes of the contest and helped secure a clean sheet win for the side.

Acerbi surely would be ready to start against Austria, where he may tag alongside Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci to form Italy’s center-back pairing in the match.
