Euro 2020: Italy Manager Roberto Mancini Discusses the Win Over Austria

Italy had a scare in the UEFA Euro 2020 Round of 16 as Austria didn’t back down from the European heavyweight. The Austrians even had Italians and those who support the national holding their breath as they nearly went up 1-0, but the Video Assistant Referee wiped away the Marko Arnautović goal.

Nonetheless, in extra time the Italy national team would score two goals, and they would need both, considering Austria also came away with a goal in those 30 minutes.

After the Italy match, manager Roberto Mancini spoke to the media, where he discussed various topics. Lazio News relayed the comments made by the Italian tactician where he first discussed their opponent, Austria.

We had to be more precise in the final third, but I knew it was going to be difficult. From this match, I carry the stubbornness of the boys, who wanted to win this game despite the fatigue. Now let’s relax.

Both sides played 120 minutes of football, and even those who weren’t on the pitch for every second, the match took everyone on an emotional rollercoaster. Mancini touched on how his squad is feeling after the extra 30 minutes of football in the win for Italy.

We were tired in the second half and it was difficult to go out and stand tall. We had to avoid conceding the goal in extra time, but the important thing is the result.
