Lazio Coach Sarri Confirms Luis Alberto Failed to Respond to the Pre-Season Call Up

Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri confirmed that star midfielder Luis Alberto failed to turn up for the pre-season medicals.

As seen on Lazio’s Twitter page earlier today, the 62-year-old Italian coach discussed the situation surrounding the 28-year-old Spaniard, who is still not in Rome yet despite the pre-season training retreat kicking off tomorrow.

Luis Alberto? He didn’t respond to a call-up, it’s a club problem. From a moral point of view, I’m waiting for him to come back to Rome to talk to me and his team-mates.

If he convinces us the problem goes away, if not he’ll have to apologize to me and the team.

Sarri also highlighted later in the press conference that he wouldn’t hold this situation against Luis Alberto.

We want to talk to him, maybe he’ll say things we agree with.

I don’t have the death penalty in my squads, I have argued fiercely with players, I may have taken them out for two games, then they played again.

The Lazio squad began taking their pre-season medical examinations on Wednesday of this week, with today being the final day for the remaining players to carry out their checks.

Whilst some players like Ciro Immobile and Joaquin Correa are absent due to international commitments, Luis Alberto failed to turn up without explanation, although some outlets are reporting that it’s due to either personal issues or wanting a longer holiday.
