Lazio’s Shehu: “It’s a Unique Opportunity for Me to Work With a Coach Like Sarri”

Lazio youngster Florent Shehu revealed his excitement to be working with coach Maurizio Sarri in the training camp in Auronzo di Cadore.

Speaking in an interview with Italian broadcaster Lazio Style Channel (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) earlier today, the 19-year-old Swiss midfielder first commented on the retreat.

I’m happy to be here in Auronzo di Cadore, it’s a unique opportunity for me to work with a coach like Sarri.

Compared to the Primavera, there’s more intensity and quality.

He touched on his surprise to be called up to join the first team for this summer’s pre-season preparations.

This call surprised me, I didn’t expect it. I was on holiday, they called me and I immediately came back.

I want to do my best in every training session and improve a lot, taking inspiration from the many great players in the squad.

The Swiss teenager looked ahead to his future and the relegation of the Primavera team.

I just want to give my best, then things will come by themselves. I’ll work hard to always give my best. It’s definitely a dream to be here.

Unfortunately, the relegation in the Primavera coincided with a drop in the second half of the season, also due to some injuries.

Finally, Shehu discussed his idols, both worldwide and within the Lazio squad.

I’ve always been inspired by Neymar, while I really like Milinkovic-Savic in the current squad.

The 19-year-old Shehu, who is contracted to the Biancocelesti until 2022, joined the club in 2019 from Spanish side Levante.

He has never made a first-team appearance, failing to convince previous coach Simone Inzaghi, but now he has a chance to impress new coach Maurizio Sarri and earn a spot in the squad.

Shehu scored three goals and provided two assists in 26 Primavera 1 appearances last campaign.
