Immobile & Acerbi Are the First Lazio Players to Win a European Championship

Ciro Immobile and Francesco Acerbi’s Euro 2020 success with Italy makes them the first Lazio players to win a European Championship.

As reported by Italian media outlet La Lazio Siamo Noi earlier today, the Biancocelesti duo are the first players in Lazio’s history to have won the competition, with the 31-year-old Immobile being a consistent starter in the squad, whilst the 33-year-old Acerbi played second fiddle to Giorgio Chiellini.

Italy’s victory yesterday was only their second ever European Championship triumph, with the first coming back in 1968 when the peninsula hosted the tournament.

Immobile scored two goals in the tournament, in the group stage matches against Turkey and Switzerland. He also provided one assist, in that 3-0 win over Turkey.

Acerbi made three appearances in Euro 2020, including the full 120 minutes in the Round of 16 win over Austria, where he provided one assist as well.

The Lazio duo will now take a short holiday before joining the squad in Auronzo di Cadore.
