Transfer market expert Gianluigi Longari confirmed that Paris Saint-Germain were close to signing Lazio forward Joaquin Correa last week, before focusing on another target.

Speaking in an interview with The Italian Football Podcast yesterday, the Sportitalia journalist provided an update on the future of the 26-year-old Correa, who is destined to leave the Roman club this summer.

PSG were very close to signing Correa but then last week on Thursday or Friday Leonardo told Correa’s entourage that they have to wait because the club have a big big chance to sign a top forward.

We haven’t been able to confirm this but we think it is is CR7.

Correa wants to leave, he strongly wants to leave Lazio. Not so intense contacts with Arsenal but Lazio and PSG for Correa at €18million + Sarabia has already been agreed.

PSG are the main contender for him but talks are on pause because of Leonardo.

The 26-year-old Correa, who is contracted to the Biancocelesti until 2024, is set to be sold by the Roman club this summer, with the player not easily fitting into coach Maurizio Sarri’s 4-3-3 system.

The Argentinian forward made 28 Serie A appearances last season, for a total of 1945 minutes. In that time, he scored eight goals and provided four assists.

Following the sale of Correa, Lazio will look to re-invest the money, signing players that better fit Sarri’s system. Wingers are still needed, with the club having just signed West Ham’s Felipe Anderson on a free transfer.
