Lazio forward Felipe Caicedo is happy working with coach Maurizio Sarri in the pre-season retreat in Auronzo di Cadore this summer.
Speaking in an interview with Italian radio broadcaster Lazio Style Radio (via LazioNews24) earlier today, the 32-year-old Ecuadorian first discussed the pre-season training camp in Auronzo.
The training camp is going well. We’re working a lot and learning what the coach tells us, so it’s going very well.
Auronzo is like being in Rome for us because we’re always well received. When we’re here we feel good and we’re always growing a lot. It’s the ideal place to train.
He touched on the squad’s preparation in the camp.
Everything has changed in the preparation. This is a different philosophy, we work a lot on the pitch, we don’t run around the lake and it’s all very new.
The essence, however, is to work hard and to the maximum and always do well.
Caicedo discussed the attacking trident in Sarri’s 4-3-3 system.
I’m comfortable with the trident. In the end when you play as a striker it’s always good, some movements change but you work hard to learn them.
We have to learn them as quickly as possible together with the coach. It’s a different world when you’re not in possession or when you’re dribbling, because there’s only one forward and you have to support the wingers as well.
The important thing is to help the team, stay short or long when needed and play well. In the end, little by little, we’re learning well.
The 32-year-old Ecuadorian forward spoke about his relationship with the Biancocelesti staff.
It’s always important to have the fans here with us.
Then with the staff we are getting to know each other little by little and we are working. We’re on the right path.
The Lazio striker commented on his goal in the Champions League and his aims for next season.
Scoring in the Champions League was a great incentive for me. It was a good goal in a delicate game in which we were struggling.
If I stay here, though, I need to score more than nine goals this season. Of the many goals I’ve scored in the last minute, the one that stayed in my heart the most was the one in Cagliari.
He touched on how he feels being a part of the Lazio environment.
I’m very happy with the Lazio environment, because they welcomed me very well, both on social media and here.
They’ve shown me they’ve always been with me and I thank them for their support. I have to continue like this, scoring lots of goals.
Caicedo was not too concerned about the switch from a 3-5-2 formation to a 4-3-3 system.
With the new form I don’t think it changes much. Playing with two wide players, more crosses might come in, but I also think they’ll be shooting a lot.
So we forwards have to pay attention to crosses, but also to the outside ball.
The 32-year-old Ecuadorian forward discussed the offensive movements required in Sarri’s system.
You have to see the situation of the game, but it also depends on the opposing team. There will be different moments in the game when we need to come forward or attack the space.
It depends on how the opponents play. We have players like Luis Alberto and Milinkovic-Savic who can make incredible passes at any time.
However, you also have to see how the opposition play.
Finally, Caicedo spoke about his technical abilities and skills on the ball.
Mister Sarri’s game, which is fast and makes the midfielders dribble a lot, could help me show my technical skills.
It’s different from the way we played before, but you have to understand the concepts little by little and implement them, always keeping an eye on what your opponents are doing.
