The appointment of Gerard Lopez as Bordeaux’s new president may allow Lazio to close out the deal for Toma Basic soon.

As reported by Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24) earlier today, the French side have managed to avoid relegation to Ligue 2 for financial issues due to the change of ownership, with the Luxembourgish-Spanish businessman becoming the club’s new president.

Basic has long been Lazio’s top choice to strengthen their midfield this summer, with sporting director Igli Tare believing the 24-year-old to be the perfect man to lineup alongside Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Luis Alberto in the midfield three.

The change of ownership may help Lazio to close out the deal soon, as they want the player to be part of the Biancocelesti environment ahead of the next pre-season training camp in Marienfeld, Germany.

The 24-year-old Basic, who is contracted to Bordeaux until 2022, made 34 Ligue 1 appearances last season, for a total of 2611 minutes. In that time, he scored four goals and provided one assist.
