Lazio Defender Acerbi Is Ready to Be a Leader in Sarri’s Four-Man Defence

Lazio defender Francesco Acerbi will return to Formello in Rome on 31st July, ahead of the second pre-season training camp.

As reported by Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24) earlier today, the 33-year-old Italian centre back wants to confirm his leadership role in coach Maurizio Sarri’s four-man defence.

Acerbi worked in a four-man defence at Chievo Verona, AC Milan and Sassuolo and so is experienced in the system.

The 33-year-old defender will return to Formello at the end of this month, the day of the post-Auronzo di Cadore meeting.

He and Ciro Immobile will join the squad for their second pre-season training camp in Marienfeld from the 2nd to 7th August.

Sarri’s initial idea is to start Luiz Felipe and Acerbi together in the centre of the four-man defence, with Denis Vavro and Stefan Radu playing backups.

Acerbi is currently enjoying his final days on holiday, celebrating after the Azzurri’s Euro 2020 victory earlier this month.
