Liverpool winger Xherdan Shaqiri thought that it would be exciting to play under Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri.
Speaking in an interview with Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24) earlier today, the 29-year-old Swiss winger first spoke about a possible return to Italy.
Of course I’d like to go back to Italy. You’re struck by the love of the fans.
He then moved on to discussing Lazio’s interest in him and their new coach Maurizio Sarri.
Igli Tare has been doing a great job for years. I’m honoured by his esteem for me. I’ve been following the Biancocelesti for a long time, they’re a top club.
I love offensive football and playing in a 4-3-3. And that’s exactly what Sarri does. So it would be intriguing for me to play with him.
Finally, Shaqiri spoke about his future and how he has asked for a transfer away from the club.
Physically I feel good, also because I am only 29 years old. I spoke with Liverpool and explained that I would like to change, because I feel ready for new challenges.
The Reds will not hinder my transfer. We’ll see what destiny has in store for me.
The 29-year-old Shaqiri, who is contracted to Liverpool until 2023, made 14 Premier League appearances last season, for a total of 551 minutes. In that time, he provided two assists, making only five league starts all campaign.
Despite hardly featuring for Liverpool this season, Shaqiri impressed for Switzerland in this summer’s European Championship, starting in all five of their games. He scored three goals and provided one assist in the competition.
