Lazio midfielder Gonzalo Escalante was happy with the team’s progress in their pre-season training camp.

Speaking in an interview with Italian broadcaster Lazio Style Channel (via LazioNews24) earlier today, the 28-year-old Argentinian midfielder commented on the work of the squad in Auronzo di Cadore over the last few weeks.

I think it was a positive retreat for us, even if we have to understand what the coach asks of us, but we did well.

I get on well with Sarri, everyone knows him.

Escalante then discussed his future and the team’s plans for the coming weeks.

I want to give everything I can here and I’m happy to be working with him.

Tomorrow we go back to Rome and we’ll see how it goes in Germany, but we’re happy.

The 28-year-old Escalante, who is contracted to Lazio until 2024, signed for the Biancocelesti as a free agent last summer, arriving from Spanish side SD Eibar.

Last season, Escalante made 24 Serie A appearances, for a total of 716 minutes. In that time, he provided one assist. The Argentinian completed 88.4% of his passes last campaign, whilst averaging 3.46 tackles per 90 minutes, 1.11 interceptions per 90 and 2.84 clearances per 90.

It’s unclear whether Escalante will stay with the Biancocelesti or be transferred away this summer.
