Wolfsburg Winger Brekalo Is Lazio’s Top Alternative to Borussia Dortmund’s Brandt

VfL Wolfsburg winger Josip Brekalo is Lazio’s main alternative to Borussia Dortmund forward Julian Brandt.

As reported by Italian radio broadcaster Radiosei (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) earlier today, the 23-year-old Croatian winger has attracted the attention of Biancocelesti sporting director Igli Tare, who is looking for a winger that would be suitable for coach Maurizio Sarri’s 4-3-3 system.

Wolfsburg are open to selling the player, who has asked for a transfer, and are willing to accept a loan deal with a €15 million buy option attached.

This would be the perfect formula for Lazio given their difficulties with the liquidity ratio, which is currently blocking them from making any more signings.

In recent weeks Brekalo has also been approached by Atletico Madrid, Real Sociedad and Real Betis, meaning the Biancocelesti may have to fight off some competition for the Croatian winger.

German forward Julian Brandt is still at the top of Lazio’s wish list, although the deal is more expensive and the Roman club still need to convince Borussia Dortmund to accept a loan deal with a buy option set at €25 million. The Bundesliga side want it to be an obligation to buy instead.
