Juventus Defender Rugani Is Lazio’s Top Option to Strengthen Their Back Line

Juventus centre-back Daniele Rugani is Lazio’s top option to strengthen their defence this summer.

As reported by Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport (via LazioNews24) earlier today, the Biancocelesti want to secure another defensive reinforcement this summer, with coach Maurizio Sarri not particularly convinced by Denis Vavro following the pre-season training camp in Auronzo di Cadore.

The main name on sporting director Igli Tare’s list is the 27-year-old Rugani, who Sarri knows well from their time together in Empoli years ago.

The Italian defender, who is contracted to Juventus until 2023, had a difficult season last campaign, spending time on loan with both Ligue 1 side Rennes and fellow Serie A side Cagliari.

Rugani made 16 Serie A appearances whilst on loan with the Rossoblu, for a total of 1002 minutes. In that time, he scored one goal, provided one assist and helped the side keep four clean sheets.

The Roman club are also interested in Cagliari centre-back Sebastian Walukiewicz, who is also wanted by Udinese.
