Lazio defender Luiz Felipe is close to renewing his contract with the club, despite strong interest from Atalanta.

As reported by Italian newspaper Il Messaggero (via LazioNews24) earlier today, the Bergamo-based club are lining up the 24-year-old Brazilian centre back as a possible replacement for Cristian Romero, who is likely to join Premier League side Tottenham this summer.

Despite Atalanta’s interest, however, Luiz Felipe is incredibly close to renewing his contract with the Biancocelesti, with his current deal ending next year in 2022.

Lazio do not want to lose Luiz Felipe and coach Maurizio Sarri believes him to be perfect for his 4-3-3 system, so they’re hoping to close out the agreement as soon as possible. The Roman club value him at around €30 million.

Luiz Felipe made only 14 Serie A appearances last season, for a total of 910 minutes. He missed almost four months of action due to an ankle surgery at the end of January but has since recovered.
