AC Milan’s Giroud on Lazio Coach Sarri: “Under His Guidance I Scored a Lot”

AC Milan forward Olivier Giroud fondly remembers his season at Chelsea under new Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri.

Speaking to gathered reporters during his presentation press conference (via LazioNews24) earlier today, the 34-year-old Frenchman looked back at the 2018/19 season, when Sarri was Chelsea’s head coach.

I didn’t have the chance to talk to Sarri before signing with Milan. At Chelsea under his guidance I scored a lot of goals.

I got on very well with him, but the important thing now is to get on well with coach Pioli. I think he’s a very capable coach and I hope to do great things with him.

The 34-year-old Giroud, who signed a two-year contract with the Rossoneri last month, made 45 appearances across all competitions in the 18/19 season under Sarri, for a total of 2156 minutes.

In that time, he scored 13 goals and provided 10 assists, netting 10 times in the Europa League as Chelsea won the competition.

Lazio have been linked with Giroud in the recent past and almost signed him in January 2020, before the deal collapsed.

Sarri won the Europa League with Chelsea in the 18/19 season but departed at the end of the campaign in order to join Juventus, where he also stayed for a single season.
