Sarri Picks Immobile to Be Lazio’s New Captain Over Milinkovic-Savic

Coach Maurizio Sarri has decided that star striker Ciro Immobile will become Lazio’s new captain.

As reported by Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport (via LazioNews24) earlier today, the Biancocelesti coach was choosing between either the 31-year-old Immobile or Serbian midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who is also one of the leaders in the squad.

In the end, Sarri decided to give Immobile the honour of wearing the captain’s armband. The role was left vacant following the departure of veteran Senad Lulic at the end of last season.

A strong relationship is now being developed between Immobile and Sarri, starting with their first talks over the phone whilst the Italian striker was on holiday, and now continuing at the pre-season training retreat in Marienfeld.

Milinkovic-Savic will be given the role of vice-captain and so will wear the armband whenever Immobile is not on the pitch.

Both players have been at Lazio for at least five years, with Immobile joining in 2016 and Milinkovic-Savic the year prior.
