Lazio have reignited their interest in Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira.

As reported by Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24) earlier today, the Biancocelesti are still looking to strengthen coach Maurizio Sarri’s squad this summer, despite the issues with the liquidity ratio, and have begun considering pushing for the Uruguayan midfielder.

The 25-year-old Torreira is destined to leave Arsenal this summer following a disappointing loan spell with Atletico Madrid last season. The Gunners are open to sending him out on loan again, with an option to buy clause attached.

This is an interesting idea for Lazio, as their current midfield target Toma Basic would cost around €7 million, with an extra €1.5 million in add-ons. Therefore, a loan deal is more accessible considering the tighter nature of this summer’s market. Lazio are currently evaluating the idea and will make a decision by the end of this week.

The 25-year-old Torreira, who is contracted to Arsenal until 2023, made 19 La Liga appearances last season for Atletico, for a total of 502 minutes. In that time, he only made three starts, failing to convince coach Diego Simeone.
