Bordeaux President Lopez: “Basic Clearly Prefers a Club & We’ll Try to Work With Them”

Bordeaux president Gerard Lopez highlighted that three clubs had made offers for Lazio target Toma Basic.

Speaking to gathered reporters at a press conference (via LazioNews24) earlier today, Lopez provided an update on Basic’s future in addition to the interest in him.

In the case of Toma Basic, it is the player and the entourage who wanted to try a new adventure. We don’t oppose that, we have three clubs on him.

Basic clearly prefers a club and we’ll try to work with them to make it happen. But we also have to consider that there are two other offers, so a choice has to be made.

Lazio have been linked with the 24-year-old Croatian midfielder for some time now, with the club considering him the perfect replacement for the ageing Lucas Leiva.

Contracted to Bordeaux until 2022, Basic made 34 Ligue 1 appearances last season, for a total of 2611 minutes. In that time, he scored four goals, provided one assist and helped the side keep 13 clean sheets.

Lazio are hoping to sign the 24-year-old Basic in a deal worth around €10 million including add-ons, but are facing competition from Atalanta.

The Roman club cannot finalise the deal for Basic yet as they are still limited by the liquidity ratio, which is blocking them from both registering their new signings and making any new ones.
