Genoa have opened talks with free agent Nikola Maksimovic, who has also been linked with Lazio this summer.
As reported by Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio on Twitter earlier today, the Rossoblu are searching for a new centre back this month and have identified the 29-year-old Serbian defender as a strong and experienced option to shore up their backline.
Maksimovic is still a free agent after leaving Napoli earlier this summer, with his contract expiring at the end of June. Lazio were heavily linked with him at the start of the transfer window, and could still make a move for the player before the end of this month.

Genoa have contacted Maksimovic’s entourage to open talks about a possible move, which may push Lazio into action, although the Biancocelesti still need to resolve their issue with the liquidity ratio.

There is also a chance that Maksimovic could return to Napoli, and so developments are expected over the coming fortnight.
