Strakosha Will Not Renew His Contract With Lazio Unless One Condition Is Met

Lazio goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha will not renew his contract if he is still the second choice to Pepe Reina.

As reported by Italian newspaper Il Messaggero (via LazioNews24) earlier today, the 26-year-old Albanian shot-stopper wants to play more consistently again this season, after having lost his starting spot to Pepe Reina last season.

Coach Maurizio Sarri seems to prefer the former Liverpool man, which could push Strakosha to leave the club on a free transfer next year after his contract expires.

Strakosha’s agent signalled that he was open to renewing his contract during the training camp in Auronzo di Cadore, but if the Albanian will not be given consistent minutes, then he will wait to leave Lazio on a free transfer.

The agent will have a meeting with Lazio’s management today to discuss the 26-year-old goalkeeper’s future, in what could be a decisive week for the Albanian.

Strakosha only made nine Serie A appearances last season, for a total of 810 minutes. In that time, he conceded 14 goals and kept three clean sheets.
