Lazio-Owned Defender Armini: “Piacenza Was Probably My Destiny”

Lazio-owned defender Nicolo Armini hopes to impress during his loan spell with Serie C side Piacenza.

Speaking in an interview with Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24) earlier today, the 20-year-old Italian defender first discussed how it felt to work with coach Simone Inzaghi.

President Lotito also confided in me that Inzaghi had spoken nice words about me with the Piacenza directors.

I can only thank the coach for the way he has developed me over the years. I’m here to get back in the game.

He touched on why he decided to transfer to Serie C side Piacenza on loan.

Some people in the Lazio staff wondered why I was transferred.

I can say that I hope to return to Rome as a protagonist.

Finally, Armini spoke about his fond memories with Lazio and how joining Piacenza may have been his fate.

Last year I worked twice as hard and I can’t blame myself for anything. Piacenza was probably my destiny. I always used to find the Scudetto in the sticker album, then I have an uncle who did his military service here.

But Lazio and the Olimpico are an unforgettable memory, I left my heart there, the debut against Bologna, for example, or the Europa League.

In a half-empty stadium, in Limassol, because just beforehand there had been a cloudburst in the city.

Then the encouragement from Immobile, Milinkovic-Savic, Radu, Lulic. I played against Palacio and Berardi, but with Lazio it was only a goodbye.

The 20-year-old Armini, who is contracted to Lazio until 2023, joined Piacenza on a season-long dry loan, looking for consistent first-team minutes as he continues his development.

The Italian defender made 16 Primavera 1 appearances last season, for a total of 1376 minutes. In that time, he scored one goal but couldn’t help the side avoid relegation.

Armini has only ever made four first-team appearances for the Roman club and has never started for the club in a competitive setting.
