Lazio striker Ciro Immobile wants to win another capocannoniere title as he looks to match Gunnar Nordahl’s record of five.

As reported by Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24) earlier today, the Biancocelesti talisman will start under coach Maurizio Sarri in the team’s Serie A opener against Empoli this evening, an opportunity for him to kick the season off in an exciting fashion.

Immobile, alongside Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo, is one of the favourites for the top scorer’s award this season, with eyes also on Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Inter’s Lautaro Martinez.

Immobile has already won the capocannoniere title three times – once for Torino and twice for Lazio. The 31-year-old Italian wants to reach Nordahl’s record, who won the title on five occasions.

Tonight’s game against Empoli is an opportunity for Immobile to begin his work for a fourth title. The 31-year-old Italian striker did score in Lazio’s opening game last season, netting against Cagliari.
