In under the first five minutes of the match, Empoli took the lead over Lazio through a strike from Filippo Bandinelli. Lazio were caught on a counter-attack and Gli Azzurri were lethal, finding the back of the net with the first shot of the game.
Empoli’s attack started following a mistake made in the midfield by Jean-Daniel Akpa Akpro. The Lazio players were caught high up the pitch and with a four-on-three advantage, Nedim Bajrami found Bandinelli on the left flank who smashed a shot past Pepe Reina in goal.
