Lazio Midfielder Milinkovic-Savic: “It Was a Tough Game, We Ran a Lot”

Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic highlighted how much fun the squad had in the 3-1 win over Empoli yesterday.

Speaking to various Italian media outlets (via LazioNews24) last night, the 26-year-old Serbian midfielder first discussed the game with Lazio Style Radio.

I didn’t expect this test, but after the first goal we responded immediately and it gave us a hand for the rest of the match.

We’re all happy to have won and we want to prepare for the next game in the best possible way.

It was a tough game, we ran a lot to get the ball, we responded well and finished the first half with a 3-1 lead. In the second half we were all free with our heads.

He touched on the importance of the fans.

When they are at the stadium they give a hand, a push.

I hope to see a full house next time we play at home, even if it’s 50%.

The Serbian midfielder commented on the return of Brazilian winger Felipe Anderson.

I missed Felipetto, let’s hope he’ll give us lots more pleasure.

Milinkovic-Savic touched on the team’s work with set pieces.

We try a lot of them, we work a lot on the ones that give us an extra hand.

He responded to the compliments given to him by former Lazio midfielder Marco Parolo.

I thank Marco for the nice words, he helped me a lot when I arrived, I was a child and he was already there.

I was trying to improve from them, they were the oldest.

The 26-year-old spoke about coach Maurizio Sarri’s requests in the half spaces.

There is a bit of a difference, we run more, but we also have more of a ball on the ground. The coach asks a lot to play more inside the pitch.

Milinkovic-Savic then discussed the game with DAZN.

I play with the sole, also because of memories as a child playing futsal. This year we’re playing a lot of ground ball so we’re having fun.

We’ve started to do what the coach is asking us to do.

He spoke about both Luis Alberto and Joaquin Correa.

Luis Alberto arrived after a few days in Auronzo and we talked, Correa is still here.

Everyone makes their own choice, when I have something to say I do it.

He was positive about the arrival of Spanish winger Pedro.

I am happy that he is with us now. He really is an amazing player.

Finally, Milinkovic-Savic discussed the tactical changes with Sarri compared to Simone Inzaghi in the past in an interview with Sky Sports Italia.

Compared to what I did with Inzaghi, coach Sarri is asking me to come and get the ball more at the back.

Our aim this season is to qualify for the Champions League.
