Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri is considering changing the team’s formation from a 4-3-3 to a 4-3-1-2.
As reported by Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24) earlier today, the 62-year-old Italian coach has spent this pre-season working with the 4-3-3 system in mind, but now he may be thinking of switching things around a little in order to suit the Biancocelesti best.
Following Empoli’s early advantage, Sarri immediately began scribbling notes. It’s likely that things revolve around Lucas Leiva, who struggled on his own with Empoli’s attacks, so he could receive more protection.

Ciro Immobile may also be involved in Sarri’s thoughts. Deploying a trequartista like Pedro or Luis Alberto behind the 31-year-old Italian striker would give him a strong reference point in the match.

This would also resolve an issue with Luis Alberto, who hasn’t particularly impressed Sarri in Lazio’s three-man midfield.
For now, it is only an idea, but after the upcoming international break, Sarri may deploy the 4-3-1-2 to see if it solves any of his concerns.
