Bordeaux Midfielder Basic to Take His Medicals in Rome Today Before Signing for Lazio

Bordeaux midfielder Toma Basic will arrive in Rome today to take his medicals before signing for Lazio.

As reported by Italian newspaper Il Messaggero (via LazioNews24) earlier today, the 24-year-old Croatian midfielder is expected to complete his medicals with the Roman club today before making himself available to coach Maurizio Sarri, who has been eagerly awaiting the player.

Sarri has been very impressed by Basic, analysing many videos and believing that the 24-year-old would fit his 4-3-3 system well.

Lazio will pay Bordeaux around €8 million plus €1 million in add-ons for Basic, who will earn €1.4 million net per season for the next four years, with an option for a fifth.

The 24-year-old Basic made 34 Ligue 1 appearances last season, for a total of 2611 minutes. In that time, he scored four goals, provided one assist and impressed with his strong defensive qualities. 

Basic is being brought in to be the long-term replacement for the ageing Lucas Leiva, whose contract expires with the Biancocelesti next year in 2022.
