Lazio-Linked Torreira to Join Fiorentina on Loan From Arsenal

Lazio-linked midfielder Lucas Torreira is set to join Fiorentina on loan from Arsenal.

As reported by Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla last night, the 25-year-old Uruguayan midfielder has agreed to join the Viola and will sign for the club on a €1 million loan, with a €15 million buy option attached.

The former Sampdoria and Pescara man was also linked with a move to Lazio, who are looking for a long-term replacement for the ageing Lucas Leiva. The Roman club’s top target is Bordeaux’s Toma Basic, though, who is set to sign for the club this week.

The 25-year-old Torreira, who is contracted to Arsenal until 2023, struggled to settle in the Premier League since signing for the Gunners in 2018. Last season he joined Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid on loan, but only made three league starts as he remained relegated to substitute appearances.

Joining Fiorentina will give Torreira the chance to prove that he is still the same strong player that attracted the interest of so many clubs during his time with Sampdoria.
