Ahmedhodzic Unlikely to Sign For Lazio Following Malmo’s Champions League Qualification

Malmo centre-back Anel Ahmedhodzic is unlikely to sign for Lazio following the Swedish club’s qualification to the Champions League.

The 22-year-old Bosnian defender was recently linked to the Biancocelesti, as well as Napoli and Atalanta, by Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24) recently, but now a move to Rome seems incredibly unlikely for the centre back.

Malmo beat Bulgarian side Ludogorets 3-2 on aggregate on the final Champions League playoff round last night, securing their spot in Europe’s top club competition.

Considering that Lazio will be playing in the Europa League next season, it’s hard to imagine the 22-year-old Ahmedhodzic giving up on a chance to play in the Champions League, something that he could also find in Bergamo with Atalanta.

Contracted to Malmo until 2023, Ahmedhodzic started all but one of their Champions League qualifiers this summer, showing his value to the Swedish side. The 22-year-old expressed his excitement for the competition on Twitter after the game.

Lazio will now have to look elsewhere for a new central defender, who will be replacing the spot vacant by Denis Vavro in the squad.
