Lazio Sporting Director Tare: “Kostic Wasn’t Allowed to Leave the Club”

Lazio sporting director Igli Tare revealed why the club failed to sign Eintracht Frankfurt winger Filip Kostic.

Speaking in an interview with German newspaper Bild last night, the Albanian sporting director commented on the cause of the collapsed talks for Kostic.

I was surprised that now, from Frankfurt, people are saying that Kostic is not on the market and that it’s not a question of price.

Until recently, the situation seemed different to me. I didn’t get the impression from the talks we had that Kostic wasn’t allowed to leave the club.

We, as Lazio, would also have been willing to negotiate on the price again. But it didn’t come to that.

The 28-year-old Kostic, who is contracted to Eintracht Frankfurt until 2023, has been one of Lazio’s main transfer targets for the majority of this summer window, believing him to be the perfect winger for coach Maurizio Sarri’s 4-3-3 system.

Kostic himself was keen on the move to Rome and skipped training on Friday last week to try and push through a transfer.

The Roman club are now looking to secure one of their alternative targets, like VfL Wolfsburg winger Josip Brekalo or Hellas Verona midfielder Mattia Zaccagni.

The transfer window closes tonight at midnight, so Lazio will have to work fast to finalise another transfer before time runs out.
