Official: Lazio Full-Back Mohamed Fares Has Joined Genoa on Loan

Algerian full-back Mohamed Fares has officially transferred from Lazio to Genoa.

As announced in an official statement last night, the 25-year-old Algerian full-back has joined the Rossoblu on a loan deal with a €7 million buy option attached.

The former SPAL man did not impress coach Maurizio Sarri at the pre-season training camp in Auronzo di Cadore earlier this summer and did not fit in the 62-year-old Italian’s four-man defence.

Fares joined Lazio in October of last year from SPAL in a deal worth around €8 million. He made 21 Serie A appearances in his first season, for a total of 1138 minutes. In that time, he provided only one assist, struggling to impress previous coach Simone Inzaghi.

The Algerian full-back also suffered from an inconsistent physical condition last campaign, missing over 10 games due to muscle and knee injuries.

Lazio will be hoping that Fares impresses enough at Genoa to earn a permanent move.
