Patric Could Be the Surprise of Sarri’s Lazio Squad, Chance for Vavro Too

Lazio defender Patric could be the surprise of coach Maurizio Sarri’s squad.

As reported by Italian newspaper Il Messaggero (via LazioNews24) earlier today, the 62-year-old Italian coach did not receive any defensive reinforcements in the summer transfer market and so will have to make do with the players currently at his disposal.

Francesco Acerbi and Luiz Felipe will be Sarri’s consistent starting defensive pair, despite the Brazilian’s shaky physical condition.

The backups are Stefan Radu, Patric and Denis Vavro, with the most interesting questions arising over the latter two. The Spanish defender was included by Sarri himself, who appreciated his quality and flexibility during the preseason training camp in Auronzo di Cadore.

Regarding Vavro, he has been included in Lazio’s Serie A squad registration list but left off the list for the Europa League.

The hope is that the Slovakian defender will finally be able to redeem himself, even though he failed to convince Sarri during the preseason.

The former Juventus and Chelsea coach demands perfect movements and buildup play from his defensive line, so the work will be long and tough for the group.
