Lazio Star Immobile Is Only a Goal Behind Toni & Vialli’s Record With the Azzurri

Lazio striker Ciro Immobile is only a goal behind Luca Toni and Gianluca Vialli’s goal records with the Azzurri.

As reported by Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport (via LazioNews24) earlier today, the 31-year-old Italian striker is set to start tonight in the Azzurri’s 2022 World Cup qualifier against Switzerland, despite his lacklustre performance in the 1-1 draw against Bulgaria earlier this week.

Coach Roberto Mancini still believes in the Biancocelesti star and considers him an important part of the squad, having started him in all but one of the Azzurri’s Euro 2020 matches earlier this summer.

Immobile has scored 15 goals in 52 appearances for the Azzurri and no one has scored more than him in the last three years with the national team.

Both Toni and Vialli scored 16 times for the Azzurri, so a goal tonight against Switzerland would see the Lazio star match the pair.

Immobile has often been criticised for his performances with Italy, struggling to replicate the decisive form that he has with Lazio.
