Cassano on Lazio Star: “Immobile Doesn’t Know How to Play Football”

Former Roma and Real Madrid forward Antonio Cassano was extremely critical of Lazio star Ciro Immobile’s performances with the Azzurri.

Speaking on the Twitch.tv channel BoboTV (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) last night, the 39-year-old Italian commented on Immobile’s recent performances with the Azzurri and the limited options available to coach Roberto Mancini.

Immobile doesn’t know how to play football, he struggles, he feels fear, he misses passes by a metre. He has only one idea, to always attack the depth and he moves well.

But he doesn’t know how to play football, he doesn’t play with the team. Mancini would pay to be 25 years younger and be the centre forward for his national team.

He was poisoned, he must have called him out 50 times. The esteem is fine but at a certain point you arrive at the World Cup and you are either in or out.

If you put Belotti in it’s the same thing if not worse. Poor Roberto, I don’t know what alternative he could have.

The 31-year-old Immobile has consistently struggled to replicate his incredible form at Lazio with the Italian national team. In the first two games of this season, he has scored four goals in Sarri’s 4-3-3 system, but for Roberto Mancini’s Azzurri he hasn’t scored in his last six appearances.

Since making his Italy debut in March 2014, Immobile has scored 15 goals in 54 appearances. He started all but one game at Euro 2020 this summer, but his last goal in the competition came in the 3-0 win over Switzerland in the group stages.
