The two clubs have met four times total in their history, starting with a two-legged affair in the Champions League 2001/02 Preliminary Group D.

In their first meeting on 11th September 2001, Galatasaray came out 1-0 winners thanks to a late goal from Umit Karan.

In their return leg on 24th October, Lazio won 1-0 themselves at the Stadio Olimpico, with Dejan Stankovic netting the winner in the 76th minute.

The other time Lazio and Galatasaray met was in the Europa League Round of 32 in the 2015/16 season.

The first match ended 1-1 in Turkey, with Sabri Sarioglu’s opener being cancelled out by Sergej Milinkovic-Savic’s header. Multiple current Lazio players were in that squad, including Felipe Anderson, Stefan Radu and Danilo Cataldi.

The second leg in Rome ended 3-1 for Lazio, with Marco Parolo and Felipe Anderson giving the Roman club a 2-0 lead before Yasin Oztekin scored to make things 2-1. The victory was secured following Miroslav Klose’s goal.
