Slovenian Referee Matej Jug To Officiate Galatasaray vs Lazio

Slovenian referee Matej Jug will oversee Lazio’s Europa League opener against Galatasaray on Thursday.

As announced on Lazio’s Twitter page earlier today, the 40-year-old Slovenian will be the referee for the match, his first time in charge of a match involving either the Biancocelesti or the Turkish side.

Jug’s assistants in the match will be Matej Zunic and Manuel Vidali, with the fourth official being David Smajc. In the VAR room will be Slavko Vincic, with Rabe Obrenovic being his assistant.

The 40-year-old Jug may not have officiated Lazio before, but he has overseen matches involving Roma (twice), AC Milan, Torino and Fiorentina. In those five games, he gave nine yellow cards, no red cards and no penalties.

Jug has never been the referee in a game including Galatasaray either, but he has also officiated games involving Trabzonspor (twice), Besiktas, Ankaraspor and Istanbul Basaksehir. In those five matches, he gave seven yellow cards.
