How Galatasaray Could Line Up vs Lazio in Matchday 1 of the Europa League

Lazio travel to the Türk Telekom Stadium in Turkey on September 16 to take on Galatasaray S.K. in Matchday 1 of the 2021/22 UEFA Europa League.

Turkish football expert Bedirhan Kanşiray of Calcio Türkiye states that Galatasaray manager Fatih Terim will likely approach the match against Maurizio Sarri’s Biancocelesti in a 4-1-4-1 formation.

The Süper Lig side are undefeated thus far in league play, securing two victories against Giresunspor (2-0) and Hatayspor (2-1), in addition to two draws against Kasimpasa (2-2) and Trabzonspor (2-2).

Despite having numerous players sidelined due to injury – including Emre Kilinc, Sacha Boey, Baris Yilmaz, Sofiane Feghouli, Omar Elabdellaoui, and Arda Turan – Galatasaray will field a young and competitive side against Lazio. The only doubts surrounding their starting eleven concern the left center-back and right-winger positions.

While Marcão is still suspended domestically, he is likely to get the nod over Danish 22-year-old Victor Nelsson in the backline alongside Christian Luyindama. Due to Kilinc’s recent injury, the only other players capable of starting in the right flank are either Ryan Babel or Ogulcan Caglayan, with Terim likely to prefer the Dutchman due to his experience.

Galatasaray (4-1-4-1): Muslera; Yedlin, Luyindama, Marcão, van Aanholt; Kutlu; Babel, Cicâldău, Moruțan, Aktürkoğlu; Dervişoğlu
