Lazio Coach Sarri: “A Milan Player Was Holding One of Our Players by the Neck”

Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri did not think that his behaviour during the loss to AC Milan deserved a two-game suspension.

Speaking to gathered reporters in a press conference (via LazioNews24) yesterday, the 62-year-old Italian coach first spoke highly of Galatasaray coach Fatih Termin.

I’ve studied under great coaches. Among them is Terim, who did very well when he was in Italy at Fiorentina.

The Europa League is a beautiful event, even if the league, being longer, gives a global idea of what has been done.

I was lucky enough to play in an EL final between two English teams, they are exciting games.

He then spoke about if he’ll make any changes in the formation to address what was seen in the loss to AC Milan on the weekend.

Tomorrow I will choose the best possible formation without changing anything. We can’t afford to do that, we still don’t have a defined identity.

We have to give ourselves an answer and give the fans something to look forward to. We’ve had three games so far, two of which have been good, so I think that was to be expected.

The former Chelsea and Napoli coach commented on where he thinks Croatian midfielder Toma Basic would fit in his squad.

At the moment I see him as an inside player with the ability to fit in.

The Lazio coach was surprised and disappointed that he received a two-game ban for his argument with Rossoneri winger Samu Castillejo following the final whistle of the match.

I didn’t expect two days of disqualification. I was threatening because a kid didn’t show respect, meanwhile a Milan player was holding one of our players by the neck.

I told the referee that I was made fun of by a kid for 15 minutes and then he sent me off.

He saw two blasphemies that I never uttered, that’s why I’ve already consulted my lawyers and if there’s at least a one-in-a-million chance I’ll go ahead.

Finally, Sarri spoke about Kosovan forward Vedat Muriqi and highlighted the role he’ll have in the squad this season.

He’ll be in the game tomorrow, I don’t know if he’ll be a starter or a player in the game. He’s working hard and I take him into account.

Last year he received unfair criticism, this year he will find an important place for himself.

This evening’s match against Galatasaray will be an important game for Lazio, as they look to kick off their Europa League group well. This group also contains Olympique de Marseille and Lokomotiv Moscow.
