Correa Had “No Doubts” About Transfer From Lazio to Inter, “Coming Here Was a Dream”

Inter forward Joaquin Correa remembered his time at Lazio and his happiness at joining the Nerazzurri this past summer.

Speaking in an interview with Italian broadcaster DAZN (via LazioNews24) last night, the 27-year-old Argentinian forward first spoke about his Nerazzurri debut against Hellas Verona.

It was great because it was my first game, I really wanted to come here.

It was a beautiful day, then something happened that hadn’t happened for a long time, but I was already happy because we won.

He then touched on his move from Lazio to Inter in this summer’s transfer window, as well as his history with the Milanese club.

I was a kid who wanted to come here at all costs and I was there that year in 2013.

It was too important for me, when I had started to get in the first team in Argentina I heard about the interest of Inter, then I still stayed there however for me it was already beautiful because I was a child who dreamed of playing here.

Correa then looked back at Lazio’s Coppa Italia victory in 2019 in addition to the call from coach Simone Inzaghi earlier this summer.

So important. Already coming here was a dream for me, then with his call with the intention of making me part of this team I had no doubt, I didn’t want to go anywhere else.

He then spoke about the positive welcome he received from the squad and the Inter staff.

From the first day I arrived, everyone made me feel at home and made me understand immediately what Inter is and the responsibility that we players have here.

We defend a shirt that is too important and heavy and I’m happy.

The 27-year-old Argentinian forward then commented on his teammates and their quality.

Playing with such strong players makes everything easier, they make you have fun and always have the ball well.

I can’t wait to keep playing with them to give joy to our fans.

He then looked back at his three years in Rome with the Biancocelesti.

In Rome I got along well with everyone, with my teammates we won things, we did really well. I feel really good here, my teammates give me a lot of confidence and this is very important.

They welcomed me in a great way and gave me the confidence I wanted.

Correa then discussed his goals whilst at Inter and how happy he is to be a part of the environment.

Definitely aiming for the highest of everything. We have a team to do it with a lot of players with quality, internationals of the highest level.

I’m not saying no titles to aim for but we have to aim to win every game. It’s still the first few games, but playing with such strong players everything is easier.

They make you have fun, they always give you the ball well, I can’t wait to keep playing, look for them and find us well together, so we can reach the joys we all want.

The Argentinian forward then remembered his time in Liguria with Sampdoria earlier in his career.

I changed my way of playing, I was a different player. Also my experience in Sevilla made me understand many things, like my experience in the national team.

These are all things that make you grow. I think I’ve changed a lot in the way I play.

He then spoke about his incredibly strong record against intercity rivals AC Milan.

We hope to continue. Now we’re already thinking about the next one and I’ll try to do my best as always, scoring and giving joy to the people.

The Inter striker then discussed the strengths of the other teams in Serie A this season.

Surely this year will be tough because there are so many great teams. There are at least five that can do well and fight at the top and do well.

To give names of two or three would not be enough, there are so many and in the Italian league you never know how things will end, but we are confident.

Finally, Correa spoke about an important person in his life, former player Juan Sebastian Veron.

He has been too important. He was my partner, he helped me a lot. At Estudiantes there is a very nice mentality that makes you grow not only as a player but also as a man and a person.

They teach you many things, even the smallest and simplest and I am always very grateful to Veron for what he taught me.
