Discontent Emerging in Lazio Squad Following Slow Adaption to Sarri’s System

Discontent is starting to build in the Lazio squad as a result of the tough adaption to coach Maurizio Sarri’s system.

As reported by Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24) earlier today, the 62-year-old Italian coach has taken note of the fact that the squad are struggling to meet his tactical requirements, with the five years under previous coach Simone Inzaghi still making themselves felt.

Sarri’s feared that this would be the case; it was seen in the back-to-back defeats to AC Milan and Galatasaray. There is still plenty of time to fix the situation, of course, but discontent is slowly starting to build within the Lazio squad.

The problem can especially be seen in the two mezzale, Luis Alberto and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. The Serbian has consistently been taken off with around 20 minutes to spare and the Spaniard cannot find his rhythm in Sarri’s 4-3-3 for the moment.

Tomorrow against Cagliari is the first real test of Lazio’s season, as a victory would highlight the team’s mental strength and ability to grind out results whilst in a tough spot. A loss, however, could further exacerbate the situation.
