Maurizio Sarri Working on Finding the Right Balance in Lazio’s Midfield

Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri is still working on finding the right balance in his three-man midfield.

As reported by Italian media outlet LazioNews24 last night, the 62-year-old Italian coach is working on teaching the squad to adapt from previous coach Simone Inzaghi’s 3-5-2 system into his own 4-3-3 style, which requires different movements and ideas.

The style is more centred around possession and less long-vertical play, something which players like Sergej Milinkovic-Savic or Luis Alberto are still adapting to.

Furthermore, there is a tactical imbalance due to the presence of both Pedro and Felipe Anderson, who are much more focused on attacking than dropping deep to defend.

Time is needed for Sarri’s ideas to take hold, but the quality is there in the Lazio squad and flashes of brilliance have already been seen so far this campaign.

Sarri wants the squad to remember that possession is key and having the ball is the best way to avoid conceding.
