Roma Legend Totti Details Mindset of Derby vs Lazio, “It Was a Different Experience”

Roma legend Francesco Totti underlined the intense pressure of the Derby della Capitale against Lazio.

Speaking in an interview with Lega Serie A (via LazioNews24) yesterday, the 44-year-old Italian commented on Giallorossi coach Jose Mourinho.

Having someone like Mourinho on the bench means extra stimulus and motivation, and this is important in a city like Rome.

Mourinho Wants Roma to Have “More Ambition Than Lazio” in the Derby

He discussed the mindset heading into the Derby della Capitale and his experience of it as a fan.

What counts is the desire to win. When you have two coaches of this caliber you already know it’s going to be a great game.

Before I became a player I was a season ticket holder in the Curva Sud, I was sick for Roma.

Finally, Totti spoke about his experience of the derby against Lazio as a player.

During the derby I suffered a lot, it was a different experience from any other city.

When I became a player, I created this relationship with the fans, there was mutual love and I experienced it differently than other players.

Lazio Midfielder Cataldi Looks Ahead to Derby vs Roma, “A Tough & Difficult Derby”

Roma have had an incredibly strong start to the season under coach Jose Mourinho, winning four of their five opening games. Their only loss came to Hellas Verona 3-2 last weekend.

In comparison, Lazio have had a more inconsistent start to the campaign, winning twice, drawing twice, and losing once to AC Milan 2-0.

The derby is an incredibly important game for both Roman teams and a victory today could be a key moment of the season for either side.
