Lazio’s two previous matches against Lokomotiv Moscow both ended in draws.

The Biancocelesti met the Russian side in the 1998/99 Cup Winners’ Cup Semi-Finals, with the first leg taking place in the Lokomotiv Stadium in Moscow.

The second league in Rome was a more muted affair and neither team could break the deadlock, leaving the game to end 0-0. The Biancocelesti advanced to the finals on the away goals rule.

Lazio won the Cup Winners’ Cup final the following month, beating Mallorca 2-1 with goals from Christian Vieri and Pavel Nedved.
