Lazio Defender Acerbi Positive After Italy’s Win vs Belgium, “We’re a Great Squad”

Lazio defender Francesco Acerbi was positive after Italy’s 2-1 win over Belgium in the Nations League third place match.

Speaking in an interview with Italian radio broadcaster Rai Sport (via LazioNews24) yesterday, the 33-year-old Italian defender first spoke about the loss to Spain last week and the importance of the win over Belgium.

It’s okay to lose a match after thirty-seven consecutive positive results. Today we restarted as we have always done, losing can happen but today we played well.

In my opinion we are all going through a period of decline.

We play a lot, but we are a great squad and we’re trying to go forward despite the fatigue because we are strong.

The Lazio defender then discussed the upcoming two 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Switzerland and Northern Italy next month.

Against Switzerland we will play at home at the Olimpico, we must absolutely win as we did today.

We will go on the field with serenity knowing that it will be a decisive match, but with optimism.

The 33-year-old Acerbi, who is contracted to Lazio until 2025, has made nine appearances across all competitions so far this season under coach Maurizio Sarri, for a total of 796 minutes.

In that time, he has provided two assists and been solid defensively, but a red card in the 3-0 loss to Bologna before the international break has soured his start a little.

Acerbi will now be forced to sit out for Lazio’s next two games against Inter and Hellas Verona.
