Lotito Freezes All Contract Renewal Talks Following Lazio’s Lacklustre Start to the Season

Lazio president Claudio Lotito has frozen contract renewal talks with all players following the 3-0 loss to Bologna.

As reported by Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24) earlier today, when the Biancocelesti players returned to squad training last week on Wednesday, Lotito harshly scolded them for both the 3-0 loss to Bologna and the relatively disappointing start to the season.

Lotito is so furious, in fact, that he has completely frozen all ongoing contract renewal talks, not wanting to give out any free gifts to players who don’t earn them.

This means that Luiz Felipe, Adam Marusic, Thomas Strakosha and Patric could all see their time at Lazio come to an end at the conclusion of this season if no strong responses are seen.

Things are a little different for Spanish veteran Pepe Reina, as his contract includes an automatic one-year renewal clause should the team qualify for European competition.

Lotito has regularly paid the salaries for June, July and August plus various bonuses, but will not restart contract renewal talks until a decisive response is seen on the pitch.
