Jorge Sampaoli’s Olympique Marseille are a young and exciting team full of attacking potential, although their defensive solidity is still a little uncertain.
The French side, who currently sit third in the Ligue 1 table after nine games, are known for their silky smooth possession-based football, looking to control the match in the opponent’s half whilst pinging the ball around in short passing movements.
One of the team’s biggest strengths is their ability to be dangerous from set-pieces, mostly thanks to the delivery of talismanic playmaker Dimitri Payet.
The Ligue 1 side are also strong on the counterattack and their players are good at creating and scoring chances through pieces of individual skill.
A big weakness of Marseille is their poor aerial ability, with the players often losing individual aerial duels. The team’s defensive organization is also a little lacking still, meaning that they are always at risk of conceding from a counter-attack, something that Lazio could look to exploit.
