Sampaoli Suggests Olympique Marseille’s Draw vs Lazio “Gives Hope for the Future”

Olympique Marseille coach Jorge Sampaoli was satisfied with the goalless draw against Lazio last night.

Speaking to gathered reporters in a press conference (via LazioNews24) after the game, the Argentinian coach spoke about the 0-0 draw against the Biancocelesti and the positive takeaways from the match.

It was a good game, we prepared for it well, against a very strong team that had just beaten Inter. We were very solid, calm, except at the end of the game when they pushed hard.

But we also had chances and this draw gives us hope for the future. Tonight the defenders had to face one of the best forwards in the world.

We could have won the game before the end, we had several clear chances.

Pau Lopez has improved a lot since his injury, I think he is a goalkeeper who can bring us forward a lot in the future and we are very happy with his performance.

Sampaoli then looked ahead to Olympique Marseille’s next game against Paris Saint-Germain on the weekend.

I don’t know yet, it will depend on the form of the players. Tonight we were playing to qualify, so there was a lot of intensity.

We’ll have to see how the players recover, because for this type of match you need all the players at 100%.

Lazio currently sit second of Europa League Group E after three games, with four points. They are three points behind group leaders Galatasaray, and one point ahead of third-place Olympique Marseille.

The Biancocelesti’s next match in the competition is away to Marseille early next month, an important fixture that could decide which team finishes second in the group.

Lazio’s next match in the league is against Hellas Verona this weekend, a tough match for coach Maurizio Sarri as he is unable to pick either of his two regular centre-backs, forcing him to use Patric and Stefan Radu.

The Roman club will then face Fiorentina and Atalanta before travelling to the French coast.
