Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri was incredibly disappointed following his side’s 4-1 loss to Hellas Verona.

Speaking first in an interview with Italian radio broadcaster Lazio Style Radio (via LazioNews24) after the game, the 62-year-old Italian coach commented on the problems seen in the Biancocelesti’s defeat to the Gialloblu yesterday afternoon.

What happened today was what happened in Bologna. These ups and downs are expensive.

Today we weren’t as drained as we were in Bologna, but at the first difficulty we melted like snow in the sun.

We also had some important opportunities to get back into the game, but we didn’t take them. This means that we’re not mentally solid.

The Lazio coach touched on the difficulty of staying consistent across the games.

It would be worrying if we only approached the big matches in a certain way. Also because today there were three points up for grabs.

Yesterday the team seemed to me aware of the importance of this match.

He noted that the team cannot be called a great team in their current state.

I didn’t make any changes at the start of the second half to see a reaction in the very first few minutes. However, we didn’t change after that much.

Maybe we need to start talking about whether we are a great team or not. A great team if it has those chances at 2-1 or 3-1 they do not make a mistake.

We have some great team performances, but we can’t call ourselves one. And I don’t think it’s a coincidence that certain performances come whilst away.

Sarri then discussed the 4-1 defeat to Hellas Verona whilst speaking to gathered reporters in a press conference.

The two defeats of Bologna and Verona hurt in the same way, today some chances were created but the situation remained the same.

At the Dall’Ara we were down in the dumps even before taking to the pitch, today we melted at the first difficulty and this is worrying.

The match also gave us a couple of chances to get back into the game. In the end, we have to admit that our opponents’ level of aggression was higher than ours and this, in the long run, is worrying.

The 62-year-old Italian coach spoke about how the team need to find more consistent performances in order to continue their growth.

Without a doubt, we have consistency problems, we can’t beat Roma and Inter and then concede 7 goals between Bologna and Hellas Verona, with all due respect to these two excellent opponents.

A inconsistent performance can be justified by Thursday’s Europa League commitment but today there were only two players on the pitch who were on the field against OM.

Sarri highlighted how the team are working together to try and solve the issues as soon as possible.

In the locker room we said things to each other face to face, the analysis was made both on a collective and individual level, we need to understand what is happening inside, we are talking with Tare about the possibility of going into a retreat to live all together the next few hours.

When the team melts it is difficult to have an idea of individual performances, it becomes like a cat biting the team, it is difficult to understand.

There is little to save, we were orderly only at the beginning and then we didn’t put on the pitch what we had worked on. We lost the focus needed to play the game.

He touched on the work that needs to be done now.

If we win against Roma and Inter, our ideas work, but if we lose, then no. Since the results have been fluctuating, we’ve had a lot to talk about.

Since the results are fluctuating it’s difficult to give an answer.

Finally, Sarri spoke about the current position of Spanish midfielder Luis Alberto.

I work for the badge on the front of the shirt, then I try to help the name on the back. My primary interest is the team, Lazio, the club.

The individual could do little today, the team would have dragged every individuality into oblivion.

  1. Well these losses must be changed in the our upcoming games; the team shouldn’t be having this issue of inconsistency especially after gaining important wins in the league. If we continue like this, I doubt we would finish in any European spots; Sarri needs to find a solution to this issue ASAP.
