Atalanta’s Gasperini Is the Coach That Lazio’s Sarri Has Faced off Against the Most

Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri has faced off against Atalanta’s Gian Piero Gasperini 15 times before in his career.

As collected by stats provider Transfermarkt, the 62-year-old Italian coach has battled with Gasperini 15 times in the past, the most common opponent of his career.

Lazio Consistently Struggle In Away Games Despite Good Home Performances

Sarri’s first matches against Gasperini came in the 2005/06 season when the Lazio coach’s Pescara drew 0-0 and lost 2-1 to Gasperini’s Crotone.

The following campaign the two coaches faced off once against, with Sarri’s Arezzo only earning a point from a 0-0 draw against Gasperini’s Genoa.

A seven-year gap followed, with the pair next meeting in October 2014; Sarri’s Empoli drew 1-1 with Gasperini’s Genoa.

Sarri secured his first win against the Atalanta coach six weeks later when his Empoli beat Genoa 2-0 in the Coppa Italia fourth round.

The return match in the league that season then ended 1-1.

The 2015/16 season saw Sarri pick up four points against Gasperini, with his Napoli drawing 0-0 away before winning 3-1 at home.

The following year Gasperini secured the full six points against the 62-year-old Italian coach, with his Atalanta winning 1-0 at home and 2-0 away.

In the 2017/18 campaign, Sarri’s Napoli picked up six points against Atalanta in the league but lost 2-1 in the Coppa Italia Quarter-Finals.

Their final confrontations came in the 2019/20 season when Sarri’s Juventus won 3-1 away before drawing 2-2 at home.
